Qilu University of Technology (Shandong Academy of Sciences)
The notice reported that Qilu University of Technology (Shandong Academy of Sciences) had appointed Professor Chen as chief strategic scientist and academic leader. The team focused on new materials, intelligent equipment, and new energy. Drawing on the New Materials Institute and the Qilu School of Materials Science and Engineering, it aimed to build an internationally connected open platform for intelligent nanomaterials. The notice described plans to work with institutions in Qingdao on a national research center, encouraged scientific cooperation and industry-sponsored research, and welcomed young researchers to study materials science.

Eligibility requirements in the original notice
1. Established researchers
Positions within Qilu University of Technology (Shandong Academy of Sciences)
For urgently needed research areas, the notice sought researchers holding an associate-senior or higher professional title with at least one of the following achievements in the previous five years: leading a National Natural Science Foundation general project; being among the first two recipients of a provincial or ministerial research award at second prize or above; publishing, as first or corresponding author, at least six SCI-indexed papers in quartile 2 or above in natural sciences or engineering, or at least eight CSSCI papers or two SSCI papers in quartile 3 or above in humanities or social sciences; obtaining at least six service-invention patents as first inventor relevant to the field; or having equivalent achievements.
The original age limits were under 45 for full-senior titles and under 40 for associate-senior titles, with possible flexibility for urgently needed fields or exceptional research achievements.
2. Outstanding PhD graduates
Positions within Qilu University of Technology (Shandong Academy of Sciences)
Category A: in the previous five years, as first author—including second authorship where the supervisor was first author—or corresponding author, at least two SCI quartile-1 papers, four quartile-2 papers, or six quartile-3 papers in natural sciences or engineering; at least six CSSCI papers or one SSCI quartile-3-or-above paper in humanities or social sciences; alternatively, a PhD from a world top-100 university according to the specified Times Higher Education or Shanghai rankings, special funding from the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, or equivalent achievements.
Category B: in the previous five years, as first or corresponding author, at least one SCI quartile-1 paper, two quartile-2 papers, or four quartile-3 papers in natural sciences or engineering; at least four CSSCI papers in humanities or social sciences; alternatively, a PhD from a world top-200 university in the specified rankings, more than one year of postdoctoral research at a world top-100 university, or equivalent achievements.
Category C: young PhD graduates with strong development potential in fields urgently needed for teaching or research. The original age limit was under 35, with possible flexibility for exceptional achievements.
3. International joint postdoctoral researchers
Qilu University of Technology–University of Waterloo program
The original notice required an appropriate political and academic orientation, compliance with the constitution, laws, and institutional rules, and no adverse record.
Applicants were to have earned a PhD within two years, published at least one relevant SCI paper as first author in the previous five years, generally be no older than 35, and work full-time. The chosen project was to fit the team’s research plans, and applicants were to demonstrate strong academic ability.

Shaanxi University of Science and Technology–University of Waterloo program

Applicants were to have graduated from a recognized university or research institution, earned a PhD within three years, be no older than 35, and work full-time after joining.
The notice sought a strong academic background, innovation and independent-research ability, and commitment. Compensation and support in the original notice
1. Established researchers
After signing a work agreement with clear targets and starting full-time, the notice offered a housing-purchase subsidy of 400,000–500,000 yuan, research start-up funding of at least 500,000 yuan for natural sciences and engineering or 100,000–200,000 yuan for humanities and social sciences, and support for research facilities.
2. Outstanding PhD graduates
Category A: associate-senior professional salary during the initial appointment, a housing-purchase subsidy of 300,000–500,000 yuan, and research start-up funding of at least 300,000 yuan in natural sciences and engineering or 50,000–150,000 yuan in humanities and social sciences. Additional support could be considered for urgently needed basic subjects such as Marxist studies, mathematics, foreign languages, and physical education.
Category B: associate-senior professional salary during the initial appointment, a housing-purchase subsidy of 100,000–200,000 yuan, and start-up funding of 100,000–200,000 yuan in natural sciences and engineering or 50,000 yuan in humanities and social sciences. The notice allowed enhanced support for the same urgently needed basic subjects where achievements were otherwise equivalent.
Category C: a rental subsidy of 60,000 yuan and an amount of research start-up funding determined according to circumstances.
3. International joint postdoctoral compensation
Qilu University of Technology–University of Waterloo program
1) Administrative and organizational arrangements were subject to the relevant rules. Compensation was to be negotiated under national, provincial, academy, and host-institution provisions. The notice described annual income of at least 350,000 yuan, including 150,000 yuan in performance pay, for specified overseas or recent graduates from leading institutions; at least 300,000 yuan, including 100,000 yuan in performance pay, for other researchers; and negotiated terms for employed researchers on full-time leave.
2) Jointly trained postdoctoral researchers could participate in a 1+1 domestic and overseas training plan.
3) The academy or host institution would provide apartments for rent.
4) Researchers performing exceptionally could apply, after three months of postdoctoral work, for a full-time permanent research or teaching position under the original program’s rules.
5) Researchers completing their postdoc who wished to remain and met the requirements could apply through recruitment under Shandong’s policies encouraging postdocs to stay in the province.
6) Before completion, postdocs could apply for the academy’s professional-title review.
7) With team recommendation, postdocs could apply for research projects and doctoral-research award funds under the relevant rules.
4. International joint postdoctoral compensation
Shaanxi University of Science and Technology–University of Waterloo program
1) Administrative and organizational arrangements followed the relevant rules; compensation was negotiated with the researcher under national, provincial, academy, and host-institution provisions. The notice stated annual income of at least 200,000 yuan.
2) The notice offered postdoctoral affiliations at Waterloo and Shaanxi University of Science and Technology.
3) Apartment rentals for postdoctoral researchers were proposed but marked as not yet confirmed.

Research areas
1. Intelligent and new-energy materials
1) Aqueous hybrid electrochemical materials
Background: electrochemistry, physical chemistry, nanomaterials, or related fields. Experience with aqueous hybrid batteries was preferred.
2) Nanometal-oxide electrode materials
Background: electrochemistry, physical chemistry, nanomaterials, or related fields. Experience researching nanometal-oxide electrodes was preferred.
3) Battery cells
Background: chemistry, physics, electrochemistry, or materials science and engineering. Experience with new aqueous batteries, such as sodium-ion, zinc–lithium, or zinc–bromine batteries, or familiarity with battery materials, cells, and packs was preferred.
4) Positive- and negative-electrode materials
Background: materials or electrochemistry. Leading experience with electrolytic manganese dioxide, lithium manganese oxide precursors, lithium-battery cathodes, aqueous lithium- or sodium-ion electrodes, or other metal-oxide materials was preferred.
2. Nanobiomedical engineering
1) Drug and gene (siRNA) delivery
Background: organic chemistry, pharmacy, pharmaceutics, nanobiomaterials, or polymer chemistry, with experience designing drug- and gene-delivery carriers.
2) Small nucleic-acid drug chemistry
Background: pharmacy, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related fields, with familiarity with small interfering nucleic acids and relevant research experience.
3) Drugs for tissue fibrosis
Background: pharmacy, biology, nanoengineering, or related fields, with a strong theoretical and applied understanding of tissue fibrosis, particularly skin scars or liver fibrosis.
4) 3D tumor models and drug screening
Background: biomedical engineering, tissue engineering, nanoengineering, or oncology. Researchers with a medical degree or experience with patient-derived organoid models were particularly welcome.
5) Immunology or pathology
Background: immunology or pathology, with research experience in tissue-sample surgery, division, sectioning, or related areas.
6) Molecular fluorescence
Background: organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, applied chemistry, or related fields, with experience in fluorescent-material synthesis and applications or the design and use of organic fluorescent molecules.
